Most people are first diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia when the disease is in the “chronic” phase of the disease. This is sometimes also called the “stable phase”. In this phase, there are 5% or fewer blast cells in the blood and bone marrow. This is considered the earliest phase of the disease. At this phase, CML typically progresses slowly, and can even be stable for long stretches of time.
