A “stage” of a cancer refers to how far the non Hodgkins lymphoma may have spread. Knowing the stage of the cancer is also helpful in determining your treatment options. Here is a brief description of the stages for non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
Stage I: The lymphoma is limited to one region of lymph nodes or affects a single organ.
Stage II: The lymphoma is in two or more lymph node regions on the same side of the body, or it affects a single organ as well as nearby lymph nodes.
Stage III: The lymphoma affects lymph nodes on both sides of the diaphragm. It may also affect an organ and/or the spleen.
Stage IV: The lymphoma has spread to other regions of the body.
The stage of lymphoma may be further classified as “A” or “B”, depending on your symptoms. The “B” classification refers to such symptoms as fever, night sweats, and the unexplained weight loss. An “A” classification refers to an absence of these symptoms.
